How To Measure Your Floor

Planning how much laminate wood flooring you need..

How To Measure Your Rooms

The second step after deciding to go with laminate wood flooring is to measure the room to find out how much you are going to need, this can seem tricky at first, but its actually pretty easy to do, what you want to do is quickly draw a basic looking plan of your room like the one above, it does not have to be a masterpiece either;), In the ideal world it will just be a square room, if this is the case draw the square room on paper, take a tape measure and measure down the length of the room, from one end to the other, now write that measurement down on the plan you have, now change direction and do the same as above for the width, and again record that measurement on paper, all you have to do now is multiply the 2 measurements together i.e….

LENGTH x WIDTH = TOTAL AREA SQUARE FEET

Actual example(Length: 10′ x width: 6′ = 60sf)

Now you have your complete area square feet, you should now add 10% on top for any cuts + waste you may have.

Actual example(Length: 10′ x width: 6′ = 60sf + 10% = 66sf TOTAL)

If the room is not square, but like the picture above, what you can do I break it into sections like so..

All you need to do here is repeat the same steps as above, but this time in the 2 sections separately, then once you have both area square feet numbers, again add 10% if you didn’t already, now add them both together i.e…

Section One: width- 10′ x length- 6′ = 60 square feet

Section Two: width- 5′ x length- 2′ = 10 square feet

Total for both sections together: 60+10 = 70 square feet + 10% = 77 square feet TOTAL!!.

So you know your dealing with aprox 77 square feet of flooring area, all you need to do is head over to our laminate wood flooring store page where you will find a selection of different laminate floors to purchase, all of the floors have the square feet per box in the description, you just need to divide your square feet by the number of square feet in each box of flooring i.e…

Laminate Flooring Oak has 20sf per box

Your square feet area = 77sf

77 / 20 = 3.85 box’s, so you round up too 4 box’s

Hope that helps you out?, you can always email us too if you get really stuck;)).
